About the sponsors

Camelot / The National Lottery
The National Lottery is proud to support the Society of
Editors’ annual conference.  With over 70% of the adult population regularly playing, The National Lottery is at the heart of the community and benefits millions of people’s lives – just as the national, regional and local media does every day.  Since its launch, The National Lottery has generated over £18.6 billion for Good Causes and it will have a vital role to play in funding the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Thanks to the invaluable support from the national, regional and local press over the past 12 years, National Lottery winners have been able to share their good news, unclaimed prizes have been publicised and often missing ticket-holders have been reunited with their winnings as a result – while awareness has been raised of the thousands of projects which have benefited from lottery grants the length and breadth of the UK.

Glasgow 2014
"The Commonwealth Games has the potential to change our country. Taking the bold step to bring one of the largest events in the world to Scotland shows the scale of our ambition as a nation and the confidence we have in our biggest city." It was with these words back in August 2005 that the First Minister of Scotland, Jack McConnell, announced that Glasgow had entered the race to win the 2014 Commonwealth Games. A difficult race, he conceded, but one that everyone in Scotland wanted Glasgow to win. Looking at the prize, you can see why Scots everywhere have thrown their support behind the Bid. One of the largest multi sports events in the world, the Commonwealth Games have become a global spectacle. 71 Countries compete. Over 6000 athletes and officials take part. 1000s of the world's media cover the event and, worldwide, the television audience is estimated at over 1 billion. For a city that is reinventing itself at the pace that Glasgow is, having this kind of exposure
would give us the chance to show the world exactly what kind of city and country we have become. It is, quite simply, the opportunity of a lifetime. Our Bid is a strong one. We have what it takes.
