Previously he was managing director of the Nottingham Post Group and Lincolnshire Echo Group Newspapers. Before that he was Assistant Editor of the Daily Express and Editorial Director for Eastern Counties Newspapers.

He edited the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Evening Star and was deputy editor of the Leicester Mercury.

Married with two teenage sons, he read English at Oxford and has studied at Cranfield University, Ashridge College and the Poynter Institute, St Petersburg, Florida.

His interests include architecture, sport and literature.
